27 - Apulian polychrome volute krater. Canosa, 300–280 BCE. H 41.8 cm, W 22.6 cm. Reddish clay with a rich reddish-brown glaze. Features polychrome painting, traces of which in white paint remain. On the front, a naiskos; on the back, acanthus leaves; beneath the handles, palmettes; and on the neck, a winged female head at the front and a laurel wreath at the back. On the volutes, relief gorgoneia. Includes a dated index card from the collector! Assembled from large fragments with visible adhesive residue; small chips at the rim and along the break lines. Provenance: Formerly in the collection of H. S., Northern Germany; acquired in March 1996.
