[NAVY] [G.-Fr DE PUYFERRE] A large collection of documents concerning Guillaume-François De Puyférré*. Several dozen items (most in folio and in-4 formats); numerous documents bearing a ministerial letterhead (“Royal Navy”). Numerous handwritten letters and mission orders. Various mission orders, including: orders to set sail (1826), transport orders (1826–1827)—often signed by the Rear Admiral (Count de Maurville)—to repeatedly transport (military) passengers, orders to place oneself under the authority of a specific officer during missions (1826–1829), appointment to the rank of Ensign (document on vellum dated 1817, signed by the king with the royal dry seal), appointment to the rank of Lieutenant (1824), appointment as Sub-Adjutant Major (1829). Of note is a letter of congratulations and praise regarding Puyferré’s command (signed by the Count of Chabrol, Peer of France and Minister of the Navy) and a letter signed by Louis-Henri de Saulces de Freycinet (Governor of French Guiana) thanking him for bringing a collection of plants from Brazil to French Guiana and asking him to ensure that certain convicted individuals (among the passengers) were kept under surveillance during the return voyage to France. Numerous documents, varying in detail, regarding his “service records” (1814–1825), notably concerning the gabarts “La Nantaise” and “L’Infatigable,” as well as “La Bretonne” and “L’Orion” (training ship). A fine collection; excellent documentation. * Guillaume-François De Puyferré, French naval officer (Brest, March 20, 1790–Landerneau, February 10, 1877). He ended his military career with the rank of Lieutenant. He retired in 1832.
