[Chalcography] XXX [Charles PERRAULT] Festiva ad capita annulumque de cursio a rege Ludovico XIV principibus summisque aulae procerib (…). Paris, Royal Printing Office, 1670, 1 vol. in large folio format consisting of a bust portrait of Louis XIV, 8 plates on 4 double sheets (the procession’s route from Place Vendôme to Place du Carrousel), 5 plates of emblems, 28 plates of costumes (primarily horsemen), and one double plate on the same subject; finally, 3 double plates depicting the processions themselves. An edition without text, printed on large-format paper intended for foreign courts and published simultaneously in French under the title “Courses de têtes et de Bagues,” a title associated with the King’s Cabinet collection. Later binding from the late 19th century in green half-shagreen, cardboard covers, smooth spine. A water stain on the front cover has caused a faint, gradually fading light halo on the first three plates (easily touch-upable); otherwise, a spectacular copy with no wormholes or stains.
