After an eventful youth, he founded two villages and began painting as a Tingatinga artist in 1973. His works are known for their harmonious colors and themes centered on village life, African culture, and respect for ancestors. He was actively involved in the Ujamaa movement and was highly regarded for his originality. Today, Msagula is considered one of the most important figures in the Tanzanian art scene.
