Jeanne Mammen grew up in Paris and began her training as a painter in 1906 at the Académie Julian in Paris; she studied from 1908 to 1910 at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and in 1911 at the Scuola Libera Academica, Villa Medici, in Rome. A leading figure of New Objectivity and a contributor to *Jugend* and *Simplicissimus*.
