Joannis Avramidis 1922 Batumi – 2016 Vienna – Three Figures – Bronze. Brown patina. 100/400. 40 x 25.5 x 5.2 cm. Signed on the base: AVRAMIDIS. Foundry mark: Venturi Art Bologna. Ber. Joannis Avramidis is considered one of the most significant figures in postwar Austrian sculpture. As a student of Fritz Wotruba, he developed a distinctive formal language that reduces the human body to clear, architecturally structured forms. The bronze sculpture *Three Figures* impressively illustrates his artistic principle: three abstracted bodies merge into a cohesive, almost column-like unit. The rhythmic structure and vertical orientation lend the composition a monumentality that extends far beyond its actual size. The work combines the classical conception of the human figure with the formal language of modern sculpture.
