Magnificent Art Deco aquamarine pendant 1930s. 585/- yellow gold and white gold, hallmarked. Weight: 19.7 g. 1 emerald-cut aquamarine (2.5 x 1.8 x 1.2 cm), approx. 35–37 ct. L. 6 cm. W. 2.8 cm. Large pendant loop. In very good condition. An exceptionally beautiful, clear aquamarine of an intense, slightly turquoise-tinged sea blue. A magnificent pendant from the 1930s, whose impact is entirely defined by the exceptionally large aquamarine. The clear stone, weighing about 35–37 carats, displays that characteristic sea-blue hue with a slight hint of turquoise to which the aquamarine owes its name—aqua marina, “water of the sea.”The strictly rectangular shape of the emerald-cut stone stands in charming contrast to its distinctly sculptural setting. Volutes, curved leaf motifs, and white-gold ornaments accented with small diamonds surround the aquamarine, lending the piece an almost Baroque opulence. It is precisely this combination that makes the pendant so characteristic of its era. The monumental basic shape and the geometric cut of the stone are still very much in the Art Deco style, while the voluminous yellow gold and the historicizing ornaments already mark a departure from the stricter design language of the 1920s. The result is a piece of jewelry that straddles the line between modernity and romantic nostalgia—extravagant, luxurious, and commanding.
