LEA STEIN - Five Vintage Brooches with Animal Motifs Designed by Lea Stein, 1960s through 1980s. Cellulose acetate (Rhodoid), silver plated metal clasp. Weight: 48 g. Dimensions: approx. 5.5 x 5 cm; 8.5 x 2.3 cm; 7.8 x 4 cm; 6.5 x 4.7 cm; and 8 x 5 cm. Signed: LEA STEIN PARIS (The two bird brooches are unsigned, but are likely also by Lea Stein). Condition: In good condition with slight signs of wear. Lea Stein is a French designer best known for her colorful, graphic costume jewelry brooches. Her brooches consist of many thin layers—sometimes up to 50—that are fused together in a lengthy lamination process.Materials incorporated for texture and visual effects—such as lace, brocade, fabric, metal, mother-of-pearl, and other decorative elements—are often embedded between the layers to create iridescent, snakeskin-like, mosaic-like, or tortoiseshell-like effects.
