Large celadon húlu vase with Qianlong mark China, probably 20th century or later. Porcelain, celadon glaze. Height: approx. 35.5 cm. Underglaze blue mark: “Daqing Qianlong Nianzhi” (Made during the Qianlong period of the Great Qing Dynasty). Condition: Good condition. Signs of wear. The húlu, the gourd-shaped vessel, holds special symbolic significance. It is often associated with good fortune, prosperity, protection, and health. Traditionally, it was believed that the gourd shape wards off evil spirits and attracts positive energy. Another reason lies in the sound of the word “húlu,” which sounds similar to “fúlù”—a term meaning “good fortune and wealth.” For this reason, this shape is frequently used in works of art, jewelry, and decorative items.
