Large lime-green Famille Rose vase with Jiaqing mark China, probably late Qing Dynasty. Porcelain with a lime-green ground, painted in polychrome enamel colors and gold over the glaze. Height: approx. 31.5 cm. Six-character Jiaqing mark in iron-red overglaze painting. Base and interior of the vase with turquoise glaze. In good condition with slight signs of wear. - Provenance: Private collection in northern Germany. Delicate vase with a lotus blossom design. The lotus blossom, an important symbol in Buddhism, represents purity and feminine beauty. Since the Chinese word for lotus (hé) sounds the same as the word for “harmony,” it is also considered a symbol of harmony. The bats depicted on four sides symbolize Fu, the Chinese concept of good fortune, which promises blessings and prosperity.
