ABC Children’s Book from the estate of the Brothers Grimm Probably before 1860. Cardboard binding with endpapers and 9 pages of text (no title page, no date or publisher’s information). Color copperplate engravings, each with 2 lines of text for the ABC. 17 x 11 cm. Retouched and with occasional age spots; tears in the binding. Burn marks on the lower edge. - Provenance: A handwritten letter from 1896 by Dr. R. Mauritius (professor at the Casim. Gymnasium) from Coburg, in which he writes that he acquired the book as a student in Marburg around 1859 or 1860 from the Hassenpflug estate and bequeathed it as a gift to the Brothers Grimm Museum in Hanau. The Grimm brothers’ sister, Charlotte Amalie, was married to Ludwig Hassenpflug.
