Russian officer's saber with an etched inscription reading "Nicholas II" Russia, Slatoust (Zlatoust), circa 1890–1917. A stately Russian officer’s saber with richly decorated, fire-gilded brass mountings and an etched blade. Total length 103 cm, blade length 84 cm. The long, slightly curved blade features, on one side, finely executed etching depicting the double-headed eagle of the Russian Empire as well as the Cyrillic inscription “?????????. ???????. ???????” (Slatoust (Zlatoust) Arms Factory). This type of etching is typical of officers’ weapons from the reign of Tsar Nicholas II (1894–1917). The craftsmanship suggests it was manufactured at the historic Slatoust (Zlatoust) arms factory in the Urals, which had been renowned since the 19th century for its high-quality, decoratively etched officers’ blades. The brass hilt, featuring a triple-openwork guard, bears the motto engraved twice in Cyrillic: “?? ?????????” (“For Bravery”). The handle is ribbed, and the pommel is decorated with the large imperial crown and the monogram “? II” (N II (Nicholas II)). The scabbard is made of black leather with richly ornamented, gilded brass fittings and movable carrying rings. Condition: Age-appropriate, generally good and decorative condition. Blade with patina, spots, and partial signs of corrosion; etchings still clearly visible. The gilding on the hilt has an even age-related patina and slight signs of wear. The leather scabbard shows signs of use; the fittings have a patina. Overall, a distinctive, original officer’s piece from the late Tsarist era with great aesthetic appeal. Provenance: From a private collection in northern Germany. ??????? ?????????? ????????????? ????? ? ??????????? «???????
