Modern Pitcher - Studio Ceramics. Christine Freigang, Bürgel 1992. Ceramic, beige body. Matte brown glaze with glossy blue glaze. Marked and dated on the base: CF 92. H. 23.5 cm, W. 38 cm, D. 13 cm. Work by Christine Freigang (1944, Jena – 2014). Christine Freigang came from a dynasty of potters in Bürgel. She completed an apprenticeship as a potter under her father, Walter Gebauer. From 1965–1966, she studied under Lothar Zitzmann as a freshman at the University of Industrial Design in Halle–Burg Giebichenstein. She earned the title of master potter and worked with her father until 1971. In 1972, she rented part of his workshop from him and established her own pottery business. -- The spout and, in particular, the handle are assembled from individual ceramic elements.
