JERUSALEM PALACE HOTELPUBLICITÉE ANCIENNE | PLAQUE ÉMAILLÉE Condition (1-) | Enamel sign, convex, stenciled, around 1930, 50 x 33 cm, this antique exhibit, long believed to be lost, has recently come to light in the archives of the Bonyhád Enamel Works in Hungary. The historic Palace Hotel on Agron Street in Jerusalem was built in 1928 by the Supreme Muslim Council as an economic investment and an Arab national project. Designed by the Turkish architects Ahmet Kemmaledin and Mehmed Nehad, the building combined Neo-Ottoman, Greco-Roman, and Moorish elements. To stay ahead of the competing King David Hotel, this luxury building - with its opulent marble interiors - was completed in just 13 months and opened in 1929. In 1931, the hotel served as the venue for the first Arab Exhibition. This is the only known example that was definitely created specifically for the exhibition. The silhouette of Jerusalem shines brilliantly in the evening glow, colors and gloss are wonderfully preserved. | This is an authentic original, no replica or fake.
