Pair of bottles. China, 19th century. Glazed porcelain. Measurements: 58 x 25 cm. A pair of blue-and-white porcelain bottles, notable for their globular bodies and long, slender necks, meticulously decorated with traditional motifs. One bottle features an imperial dragon (a symbol of power, strength, and the emperor) soaring through the clouds, while the other is decorated with a phoenix, or Fenghuang (a symbol of grace, virtue, and the empress). Together, they represent marital harmony and the balance of Yin and Yang. The base of the neck and the lower part of the body feature geometric bands, choppy ocean waves, and intertwined floral scroll patterns, characteristic of Asian dynastic art. The shape and type of cobalt blue evoke the classic models of the Ming and Qing dynasties (especially pieces from the Yongle or Kangxi periods).
