Waffle maker; early 20th century. Lithographed and painted metal. Exhibits wear consistent with age and use. Measurements: 81 x 38 cm. The wafer vendor’s cart is one of the most iconic objects associated with the old tradition of street vending of wafers and sweets, traditionally found along promenades, in plazas, at fairs, and other recreational spaces. Its characteristic cylindrical body allowed the vendor to transport and store the wafers, making it an unmistakable symbol of this commercial activity. At the top, it retains the characteristic numbered wheel, protected by a metal grille. This mechanism was part of a small sales ritual that added a playful element to the transaction: the customer would spin the wheel, and the number it landed on determined the number of wafers they would receive in exchange for their coin. Exhibits wear consistent with age and use.
