Desk inkwell. France, Napoleonic III period, third quarter of the 19th century. Gilded bronze. In good condition. Measurements: 10.5 x 28 x 18 cm. During the Second French Empire, the revival of 18th-century decorative styles gained particular prominence, especially the Rococo, whose sinuous forms and ornamental exuberance were adapted to the historicist taste of the era. This double inkwell in gilded bronze is a characteristic example of this trend, featuring a mixtilinear profile enriched with rocaille, volutes, shells, and plant motifs. The composition is centered around two symmetrically arranged ink reservoirs, while the back rises through a dynamic interplay of curves and counter-curves. The quality of the modeling and the fluidity of the lines reflect the refinement of 19th-century French decorative arts.
