Umbrella Stand; Talavera, ca. 1950. Ceramic. Shows signs of restoration. Measurements: 64 x 28 x 23 cm. Glazed ceramic, hand-decorated with a rural landscape and hares in a naturalistic composition. The piece is part of the Talavera ceramic tradition, whose prestige dates back to the 16th and 17th centuries and which underwent a revival in the early 20th century, thanks to the revival of historical techniques and decorative motifs. Landscapes, vegetation, and animals form part of its ornamental repertoire, evoking the rural Castilian countryside and the hunting tradition. Talavera ceramic umbrella stands represent a decorative application of the town’s pottery tradition. During the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, large-scale pieces lent themselves to figurative compositions featuring landscapes, animals, and hunting scenes, combining domestic functionality with the ornamental character of hand-painted ceramics. It has been restored.
