Pair of oil lamps; 20th century. Opaline and Baccarat glass. Measurements: 76 x 19 cm (x2). A pair of oil lamps with an elegant ornamental design, created for interior lighting and to suit the decorative tastes of the early 20th century. They feature celadon-green bodies, embellished with floral motifs, and opaline glass shades with a flared silhouette that diffuse light softly and evenly. The combination of colored and opaline glass, together with the metal support elements, lends the set a remarkable richness of color and form. The oil lamps underwent a significant evolution during the 19th century, when improvements in oil and kerosene lighting systems spurred the creation of increasingly sophisticated models, designed both as light sources and as ornamental elements. Toward the end of the century and during the first decades of the 20th century, these pieces took on a prominent role in bourgeois interior design, where fine materials, delicate hues, and handcrafted finishes helped define the character of the spaces.
