Panel; Based on Florentine Baroque models; Italy, 20th century. Hardstones. Measurements: 90 x 150 x 4 cm. Decorative panel crafted from semi-precious stones, created in the tradition of commesso di pietre dure, one of the most refined forms of Italian artistic craftsmanship. The rectangular composition is structured by a succession of geometric and ornamental borders that frame a central field dominated by a circular medallion featuring an elaborate floral motif. On either side, sinuous branches, multicolored birds, and plant motifs form a symmetrical composition, enriched by a wide color palette and the contrast between the stones and the dark background. The piece evokes the ornamental style developed in Florence during the Baroque period, when hardstone carving reached extraordinary technical and aesthetic sophistication. This tradition, closely linked to specialized workshops and the activities of the Medici court, transformed materials of different types, colors, and textures into figurative and decorative compositions of great precision. Through the meticulous fitting of stone fragments, the natural veins and color variations of each material are integrated into a design conceived to highlight their visual qualities.
