Japanese school, late 19th century. "Bull and tigers". Bronze. With seal on the base of the bull. Measurements: 23.5 x 46 x 20 cm. Animalistic scene imbued with a great dramatism. The composition is dynamic and bold, representing a bull being attacked by two tigers. One has jumped on his back and the other sinks its teeth into his muzzle, forcing him to twist his head in submission. The quality of the bronze and the virtuosity of the bronze sculptor can be appreciated in every detail: in the folds of the neck and in the robust anatomy, in the muscles in tension and in the expressive jaws. The sculptor succeeds in conveying the tragic idea of bullfighting's surrender to the energy of the felines.
