Table lamp; MULLER FRÈRES. Lunéville, c. 1920. Cameo glass, wrought iron. In working condition. Signed. Measurements: 45 x 25 x 25 cm. A table lamp representative of early 20th-century French artistic lighting design, marking the transition from Art Nouveau to Art Deco. The piece combines an artistic glass shade, with mottled chromatic hues, and a wrought-iron frame whose floral decoration blends seamlessly into the whole, transforming a functional object into an ornamental composition. The cameo glass shade—a technique that creates decorative motifs through the contrast between different layers of glass—is one of the characteristic processes of French artistic glasswork from this period. The combination of colored glass and handcrafted metal harkens back to the tradition of the École de Nancy, which promoted the integration of the arts and crafts through collaboration among designers, glassmakers, and metalworkers. The Muller Frères workshop, established in the Lunéville and Croismare area, gained particular prominence for its decorative glassware and lighting fixtures. Its members were trained in the artistic glassmaking milieu of the late 19th century, associated with Émile Gallé, before developing their own line of production. Beginning in 1919, the firm Muller Frères Lunéville branded a significant portion of its creations, which during the 1920s and 1930s evolved from the naturalistic motifs of Art Nouveau toward the more geometric and stylized forms characteristic of Art Deco.
