Weegee Marilyn Monroe (Distortion). ca. 1952. Vintage ferrotyped gelatin silver print. 25.2 x 20.6 cm. Dedicated and signed by the photographer in turquoise ink in the lower right corner. Weegee, born Arthur Fellig, became known for his unflinching photographs of crime scenes and urban life in New York during the 1930s and 1940s. His later work reveals a more playful side: using distortions and visual exaggeration, he transformed images of celebrities into photographic caricatures. Here, Marilyn Monroe appears by a pool, multiplied into a kaleidoscopic composition. – Some surface streaks, more visible when viewed at an angle; a few light fingerprints; minimal age-related discoloration along the edges; otherwise in very good condition.
