Holderer, Lena Plant studies. 1930s. 3 gelatin silver prints on carte postale, 1 on Afga paper, printed in the 1950s/60s. Each approximately 14 x 10 cm. 1 with the photographer’s label and archive number in ink on the reverse. Little is known about the life and photographic work of Lena (“Lenchen”) Holderer, who was born in Freiburg im Breisgau and settled in Karlsruhe in 1930. She is believed to have received her early photographic training from Carl Albiker, with whom she maintained a lifelong friendship and occasionally collaborated. After World War II, her work received support from Martha Hoepffner, and she held a teaching position at the Technische Hochschule Karlsruhe from 1952 to 1956. Her photographs, particularly her studies of plants and natural forms, reflect an interest in abstraction and experimental composition. – A few minimal surface marks, one small handling dent; otherwise in very good condition.
