Greene, John Beasley Nubia. Speos de Sebouah, Pylones. 1853–1854. Salted paper print from a waxed paper negative, mounted on board. 23.2 x 30 cm (mount 39.8 x 55.8 cm). Signed and numbered “M. 7” on the negative in the lower margin; titled in ink in the lower left corner of the mount. This view depicts the pylon façade of the temple at Wadi es-Sebua, a Ramesside sanctuary dedicated to Amun-Ra and Ra-Horakhty. Its rigorous frontal composition and broad, unpopulated foreground exemplify Greene’s distinctly modern, archaeological approach to the Egyptian monument. – Mount shows light overall soiling, scattered foxing, and minor edge wear; print has a few small spots and faint marks, but is otherwise in very good condition with strong tones.
