Bisson frères Apsis of Amiens Cathedral. ca. 1855–1860. Albumen print, mounted on album card. 44 x 34 cm (mount 53.7 x 45.7 cm). Photographer’s embossed stamp in the lower left; printed title “Les Trois Ages” and imprints “Bisson Frères, Photog.” and “Victor Delarue, London.” on the reverse of the mount. The Paris-based brothers Louis-Auguste and Auguste-Rosalie Bisson were known for their large-format architectural photographs, publishing an extensive survey of European monuments between 1853 and 1862. This finely detailed view of Amiens Cathedral highlights its soaring buttresses, pinnacles, and radiating chapels, with the statue of Pierre l’Ermite providing a sense of scale in the foreground. – The mount is foxed, slightly wavy, and has creases along the edges and in the corners. Print with scattered foxing, small dark spots, and scuff marks, including a curved abrasion in the lower right; otherwise in good condition with strong contrasts and fine detail.
