Watabiki, Nobuko Untitled (2010_48) Gouache on fibrous Japanese paper, mounted on wood. 2010. 20 x 15 cm. Signed “watabiki” in pencil on the right side of the frame edge, dated, and bearing the artist’s signature; signed again “Nobuko Watabiki” in black felt-tip pen on the reverse side of the wood, as well as signed in Japanese and bearing the work number “2010_48.” Through her technique of applying paint in particularly dense, intense layers, Watabiki emphasizes the fibrous texture of the Japanese paper. “The surface comes alive. Figures emerge with greater three-dimensionality, such as those with the large orange faces, which stand out clearly against the monochrome background.” (nobukowatabiki.jp, accessed September 17, 2026). Provenance: Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia - Please request condition reports for the lots, as the condition is only listed in the catalog in exceptional cases. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
