Mira, Victor [*] "Beethoven's 5th Symphony" Gouache on sturdy, textured vellum. 1995. 66 x 101 cm. Signed “MIRA” in pencil and dated on the lower right; dated and titled again on the reverse. While the color fields in intensely luminous red and yellow are reminiscent of the flag of Mira’s native Spain, musical notation abbreviations float within the yellow areas, connecting Southern and Northern Europe in accordance with the Beethoven reference in the title. Mira fled to Germany in 1968 to escape the Franco dictatorship. Luis de Pablo and John Cage influenced her work, as did her love for Bach and Paul Klee’s “Tweet Machine.” - Please request condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
