Laabs, Hans Still Life with a Candle Gouache, pastel chalk, white overpaint, and charcoal on paper. 1983. 38 x 54.3 cm. Signed "Laabs" in black pen at the bottom right, dated in pencil, and with the dimensions. This still life is one of Hans Laabs’s characteristic compositions, reduced to a few basic forms. The candle and candle holder appear to be almost floating in space against the blue background. Despite the bold contours and dense areas of color, the painting possesses a playful lightness that is characteristic of Laabs’s work. Provenance: Private collection, Berlin - Please request condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
