Kučerová, Alena Male překážky (Small Barriers) Etching and aquatint on vellum. 1988. 53.3 x 74.7 cm (58 x 87 cm). Signed “Alena Kučerová” and dated; titled on the reverse (probably by another hand). Edition of 50 numbered copies. Trained beginning in 1950 at the Prague College of Graphic Arts and the Academy of Applied Arts there, the artist has been creating her experimental prints since the 1960s. Around 1965, she began perforating the metal of the printing plates with a shoemaker’s awl and, after printing, exhibiting the perforated metal matrices as works of art in their own right; this established her as one of the most distinctive artists on the Czech art scene. A truly magnificent, large-format perforated plate print with clearly defined perforations, finely nuanced aquatint tones, and a narrow margin. - Please request condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
