Höckelmann, Antonius [*] Untitled (Wangerooge) Watercolor, gouache, colored chalks, and pencil on watercolor paper. 1991. 30 x 40 cm. Signed “Antonius Höckelmann” in pencil along the bottom edge and dated in the lower right corner. A beautiful work from the Wangerooge cycle, rendered in vibrant colors. Höckelmann’s distinctive style—in which he uses parallel, curved lines to model the forms of his imaginary figures on paper with a three-dimensional effect—is reminiscent of the sculptural work of a trained woodcarver. Surreal influences lend his drawings an unmistakable, imaginative character and a charm all their own. - Please request condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
