Gernhardt, Per Snails Oil on canvas. 1978. 31 x 42 cm. Signed “Per Gernhardt” in black pen on the lower edge of the reverse; signed again on affixed adhesive labels, along with typographic inscriptions, the date, the title, and the work number “23/78.” A carefully composed still life characteristic of Gernhardt’s painting style. Heinz Ohff wrote about this in 1972: “Before the realism—which here is anything but radical—lies a filter made of color, of painting; one could also say: of poetry, although everything remains quite sober, quite ordinary, quite matter-of-fact.” (quoted from per-gernhardt.de, accessed July 28, 2026).
