Feinstein, Pavel Still Life with Hydrangea, Bottles, and Apricots Oil on canvas. 1987. 60 x 73 cm. Signed "PAVEL" in black with a brush in the lower right and dated; marked "291" on the reverse. Pavel Feinstein always leaves the interpretation of his paintings open. There is often a sense of mystery that resonates as an integral part of his paintings. Feinstein’s compositions are characterized by precise surface rendering and the detailed depiction of light reflections on individual objects, through which the materiality of the objects becomes tangible. Feinstein, whose real name is Pavel Chmelnizkij, initially studied under Leonid Starkow and attended the Dushanbe Art School in Tajikistan from 1978 to 1979. After emigrating to Berlin in 1980, he studied at the University of the Arts until 1985 and became a master student of Gerhart Bergmann. His first solo exhibition took place in 1986 at the Taube Gallery in Berlin.
