Szadurska, Kasia von Two Reclining Female Nudes Gouache and pencil on brown vellum. 1925. 25 x 39.5 cm (mat cutout). Signed “Kasia von Szadurska” in pencil lower right, dated and inscribed “Christmas.” The two sleeping women lie close together as if cast from the same mold, exuding a graceful eroticism. With this theme, Szadurska—who was living in the countryside near Lake Constance at the time—caused a stir in society; her portfolio “Ten Nudes,” published in a limited edition in 1921, was also a tender homage to lesbian love. Stylistically, the artist, who was originally from Russia, moved between Expressionism and New Objectivity. Provenance: Private collection, Berlin - Please request condition reports for the lots, as the condition is only listed in the catalog in exceptional cases. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
