Rágóczy, Joachim Crouching Nude Before a Washbasin Watercolor and black pen on vellum. 26.8 x 27.4 cm. Red estate stamp on the reverse. Niemann 19. A line-drawn female nude with delicate watercolor shading. The artist, who remained largely unknown for a long time, studied under Emil Orlik beginning in 1913 and served as his teacher’s assistant and private secretary until Orlik’s death in 1932. He had few opportunities to make a living from his art. It was not until after his death that the Berlinische Galerie acquired a selection of his artistic estate; finally, in 1989, a well-deserved exhibition took place at the Galerie Bodo Niemann in Berlin. Provenance: Private collection, France - Please request condition reports for the lots, as the condition is usually not listed in the catalog. - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalog.
