Jahn, Martin Untitled Oil pastel in black and white on tracing paper. 1938. 29.5 x 35.5 cm. Monogrammed "M.J." and dated in the lower right center with a carpenter's pencil. Martin Jahn arrived at the Bauhaus in Weimar in 1920 as a trained art teacher, where he took courses with Johannes Itten, Lyonel Feininger, and Paul Klee until 1924. In addition to his drawings, he also distinguished himself with works from the metal workshop. The influence of his Bauhaus teachers is also clearly evident in this interlocking composition, whose crystalline formal language is reminiscent of Lyonel Feininger’s characteristic woodcuts.
