[Benedict XIII] Handwritten papal bull by Pope Benedict XIII on vellum (790 x 510 mm). Large floral border in brown ink. Hanging lead seal bearing the inscription “Bene // dictus // Papa // XIII.” Vincenzo Maria Orsini (1649–1730) became pope under the name Benedict XIII in 1724, deliberately adopting the same name as the antipope elected in 1394 to clearly highlight the latter’s illegitimacy. Inscription on the reverse by Lezineau, a lawyer at the Parliament, certifying that this bull is genuine and original, and was sent directly from the Court of Rome on August 10, 1729. Faded ink; tears along some folds.
Delivery is optional. You can use the carrier of your choice. The stated price does not include the lot price or the auction house fees.
