The Resurrection of Christ and the Twelve Great Feasts (Dodekaorton) - Early 20th century Egg tempera on panel Height x width: 25.5 x 22 cm The focal point of the composition is entirely dominated by the radiant central scene of the Resurrection of Christ: the Savior rises, monumental, within a dazzling mandorla—a halo of golden light—enveloped in a vibrant blue mantle, while at His feet, two angels venerate His triumph over death. Surrounding this theological core is a tightly structured narrative arrangement consisting of twelve peripheral panels, each topped with an inscription in Church Slavonic. This cycle depicts, with the meticulous detail of a miniature, the crucial episodes of the Dodekaorton—the twelve major feasts—related to the lives of Jesus and the Virgin Mary. The sequence begins with scenes from Christ’s childhood and the life of the Virgin in the upper register, continues along the sides with the public mysteries of Christ’s ministry, and concludes in the lower panels with the glorious events of the Ascension, Pentecost, the Dormition of the Virgin, and the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. The entire surface is enclosed within a sumptuous border, richly illuminated with polychrome floral motifs and scrolling vines set against a gold background; this frame enhances the vivid colors of the garments and the delicate golden highlights, imbuing the work with extraordinary luminosity and profound spiritual intensity. H.E. Most Rev. Francisco-Javier Lozano Sebastián, Titular Archbishop of Penafiel and Apostolic Nuncio Emeritus. Item condition rating: **** good. The lot is in good condition, with normal wear and defects commensurate with its age and use over time. Minor losses.
