Michel MACREAU (1935–1995) Man’s Face, oil on canvas, signed with a monogram in the lower right corner, 55 x 37.5 cm This work was acquired from the Galerie Alain Margaron in Paris, a gallery that played an important role in the artist’s posthumous recognition following his death in 1995. An advocate of free, instinctive, and deeply expressive painting, Alain Margaron dedicated numerous solo exhibitions to Michel Macréau, notably “La Vérité en peinture” in 2000, “Renverser les barrières pour peindre” in 2006, “Michel Macréau, A Journey” in 2008, “Between Devil and God” in 2009, and “Face to Face, 1963–1968” in 2012. The work will be offered for sale accompanied by the exhibition catalog “Michel Macréau, Face à faces, 1963–1968," published by the Alain Margaron Gallery on the occasion of the exhibition held from September 5 to October 13, 2012 (with no guarantee that this work was purchased during that exhibition).
