Bernard RÉQUICHOT (1929–1961), abstract composition, oil on canvas, signed lower right, 42.5 x 31.5 cm This work is dated 1956 in the monograph on the artist and is numbered 118 This work by Bernard Réquichot was acquired in 1961–1962 from Galerie Margaron, which had acquired it from Daniel Cordier in Paris, one of the leading galleries of the postwar artistic avant-garde. A former secretary to Jean Moulin who went on to become a gallery owner and major collector, Daniel Cordier (1920–2020) was one of the leading advocates of Bernard Réquichot’s work, whose career he guided and supported. This acquisition comes a few months after the artist’s untimely death in December 1961, at the age of 32. The Daniel Cordier Gallery dedicated an exhibition to him from December 6, 1961, to January 9, 1962, reflecting the special place the artist held within the gallery. This work is accompanied by the original exhibition poster for “Réquichot: Paintings, Collages, Drawings,” organized by the Daniel Cordier Gallery in Paris from December 6, 1961, to January 9, 1962. This work was acquired there in 1962 and has remained in the same collection to this day. It is also accompanied by the monograph *Bernard Réquichot*, which brings together texts by Roland Barthes, Marcel Billot, and Alfred Pacquement.
