COAT-OF-ARMS BEARER'S CHAIR - 18th century - Made of painted and gilded wood, with a flowing form; the seat is adorned on a dark green background with gilded foliage scrolls, polychrome bouquets of flowers in vases, and lower panels decorated with diamond-shaped latticework on a red background. The front panel and side panels feature unidentified coats of arms from southwestern France, painted on an azure background, accompanied by gold finials and a crescent; those on the front panel are surmounted by a count’s crown. The body, which is largely glazed, is topped by a slightly domed roof covered in leather and rests on four small scroll-shaped feet. It retains its metal side brackets designed to hold the carrying poles. The interior is lined with yellow silk fabric featuring a damask floral and geometric pattern, embellished with braiding and fringe, and includes a padded bench seat. A 18th-century French piece, likely from the second half of the century. H. 160 cm - W. 90 cm (including the metal stirrups) - D. 90 cm. Signs of wear and damage to the polychrome paint and gilding, craquelure, lifting, and losses; deterioration of the interior trim; damage to the glass panes and frames. Previous restorations. Carrying poles missing.
