Nakashima, George Set of Six Grass-Seated Chairs George Nakashima Set of Six Early Grass-Seated Chairs American black walnut, sea grass 27 x 22-1/2 x 18 inches (68.6 x 57.1 x 45.7 cm) (each) PROVENANCE: Dr. Seymour and Mrs. Phyllis Lifschutz, Princeton, New Jersey; Thence by descent. This set of Nakashima grass-seated chairs was acquired by noted collectors Seymour & Phyllis Lifschutz and has remained in the family since. Although the Nakashima Studio holds no original order card—suggesting an early commission prior to 1954—it does retain records of repairs to two of the six chairs completed in 1989. This lot is accompanied by a digital copy of that documentation as well as a digital copy of the letter of attribution from the Nakashima Foundation for Peace.
