TO BE SOLD WITH NO RESERVE: Madeline Peckenpaugh, American b.1991 - Abstract composition, 2016; oil on canvas, signed and dated on the reverse 'Madeline Peckenpaugh 2016', 127 x 147 cm Note: after completing an MFA in Painting at Rhode Island School of Design, Peckenpaugh received several early awards, including the Cresson Memorial Travel Scholarship, Philadelphia Mayor’s Award, and a Graduate Fellowship at RISD (2018). Her work is held in public collections across the world including the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami; X Museum, Beijing, China; FAMM- Female Artists of Mougins Museum, Mougins, France; and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. This abstract composition demonstrates her principal technique of layering and erasing whereby she scrapes and removes paint, allowing earlier layers to remain partially visible. This creates a textured, expressive composition rife with depth.
