Kees van Dongen, Dutch 1877-1968 - Scène d'extérieur, femmes de dos, c.1902; watercolour and charcoal on paper, signed lower right 'van Dongen', 28 x 21.8 cm (ARR) Provenance: Galerie Dr. Riedl, Munich (according to a copy of their cataloguing); Lempertz, Cologne, Moderne Kunst, 29th May 2003, lot 592; Private Collection Note: the work is accompanied by a copy of a letter from the Wildenstein Institute, Paris, dated 30th March 1992 (Ref. No. 92.03.25.1183.51) confirming that the work was to be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné on the artist being organised by the Wildenstein Institute. This was further verified by the cataloguing from Lempertz and Galerie Dr. Riedl, Munich. However, the original no longer accompanies the work and the The Wildenstein Plattner Institute is currently only working on a catalogue raisonné for 'Kees van Dongen: Paintings'. Van Dongen was a central member of the Fauvist movement alongside artists such as Henri Matisse, André Derain and Maurice de Vlaminck.
