Marco Borgianni (1946–2022) Woman’s Head, June 1990 Graphite pencil and red chalk Dedicated, signed, and dated by hand in the lower right corner: “For Christine and Yves, with sincere affection,” signed “Marco Borgianni,” dated 06/90 Dimensions: Sheet 29.7 × 21 cm (11 ⅝ × 8 ¼ in.) — Image: nearly full sheet Condition: good condition, unframed Provenance: Yves Guérin’s guestbook, compiled between 1963 and 1992 (provenance from a single collection). Dedicated in Italian to “Christine and Yves” in June 1990—the same month as the Bonnefoit sheet (No. 31), suggesting a shared occasion. Description: The head of a young woman, sensitive and melancholic, her face delicately rendered in graphite with a soft sfumato, featuring warm highlights of red chalk in her hair and around her cheek; her eyes are downcast and dreamy, and a wide-brimmed hat is barely hinted at. Marco Borgianni was a Tuscan painter and sculptor born in Vico d’Elsa in 1946, trained at the Istituto d’Arte in Siena and the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence; a figurative artist devoted to both landscape and the human figure, reinterpreting the classical and Renaissance sculptural traditions, he exhibited internationally (Paris 1984–88, Geneva 1988–93) and created the Drappellone for the Palio of Siena in 1997. Signed, dated, and inscribed by hand.
