Jessica BOUBETRA (born in 1989). A ceramic column with organic forms, composed of six assembled elements resting on a black, openwork plastic base (a chip on a black petal, a broken beige structural element, and small chips). Signed with a monogram on one element. Height: 230 cm Exhibition: Galerie Lefebvre et Fils in Paris, Dec. 9, 2021 – Jan. 9, 2022. Note: A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris and the École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Paris-Malaquais, Jessica Boubetra also studied ceramics at Tokyo University of the Arts (Geidai). Drawing on her interest in science fiction, the artist finds inspiration here in William Gibson’s *Neuromancer*. The work evokes Lumierronte, a fictional residence located on the outskirts of an orbital space station—a hybrid universe that is part leisure city, part free port, and part biological laboratory, haunted by an artificial intelligence in search of identity. Through this ceramic sculpture, Jessica Boubetra translates this speculative imagination into physical form and offers a unique vision of the possible futures of contemporary ceramics.
