Note: PEYBAK refers to the collective composed of Peyman Barabadi and Babak Alebrahim Dehkordi, two Iranian artists born in 1984 who have been working together since 2001. This duo draws inspiration from Persian poetry, mythology, and miniature painting. The “Abrakan” series, from which this work is taken, was exhibited at the Galerie Vallois in 2015. These compositions highlight a style that blends the depiction of an imaginary world with the entwined bodies of creatures. The swarms of forms thus create a dense crowd set in motion by the play of light. Our work, while not monochromatic, is composed of a restricted palette of shades of blue and gray. According to PEYBAK, this series depicts the invention of a world where creatures with organic forms contribute to the birth of a complex space: somewhere between creation and chaos.
