Christian JACCARD (born in 1939). "3483 calcined Arches paper." Slow combustion on paper signed in pencil at the bottom (small scorch marks). Height: 90 cm - Width: 63 cm Note: Christian Jaccard is a Franco-Swiss visual artist often associated with and exhibited alongside the Supports/Surfaces group, which challenges the traditional codes of painting. Beginning in 1973, he experimented with the process of combustion and, in an interview, described his artistic approach as a tool combining gesture and chance to create the trace and testimony of an event: “Fire is the element that gives rise to a concern: the trace, a form of memory, a defining event, and a meaningful marker.”
