A. Klein f. 1824,” inscribed lower center: “am Läufer Brunnen in Bern,” and on the edge of the fountain is the number: “MDXXXXV” Date: 1824 Description: A two-wheeled cart drawn by a donkey, viewed diagonally from the front and positioned to the right, stops in front of the entrance to a stone building, against which a girl in a straw hat leans on the right. A second girl in a wide-brimmed bonnet, with her back turned to the viewer, sits beside her. On the left in the foreground, two dogs are lying and standing. The center ground is occupied by the aforementioned fountain crowned with two figures; at its trough, marked MDXXXXV, stands a woman with a tub. From the 1844 edition by C. H. Zeh.
