Date: 1777 Description: Two shepherds are in the pasture. In the foreground, sheep are lying in the grass. At the right edge of the picture, leaning against a tree, a young shepherd is sitting next to his dog. In the left middle ground, another shepherd is standing with a straight shepherd’s crook in his hands. A church can be seen in the center background. The accompanying text from the reference book describing this image is included. The sheet is brownish in color, stained, creased, and shows age-appropriate traces of dust and soiling. The edge is slightly bumped and worn and somewhat frayed along the right edge, as the sheet was removed from a book at that point. The following page is still attached to the sheet. The illustration is clearly visible. The top edge of the sheet is creased, and two diagonal creases run along the lower half of the sheet. An “X” has been marked in pencil in the upper left corner of the sheet.
